This is a good readable police mystery novel with the familiar lead character, Harry Bosch, and a new sidekick, Renee Ballard. However, maybe since I recently have read a couple of these novels already, I wanted something new other than the Los Angeles police scene. It also is difficult to believe that a retired detective can still actively get involved solving murders with a currently active one without ending up in serious trouble himself. The plot is twisted and has many characters and false leads that keep you guessing all the way, which is good writing, as well as good descriptive scenes that take you right there. If you like these kinds of novels, the Los Angeles tableau, and are new to the author’s works, you should enjoy this one.
