The Concrete Blonde
Book - 1994
Detective Harry Bosch was sure he'd shot the serial killer responsible for a string of murders in LA . . . but now, a new crime makes him question his convictions.
The Dollmaker was the name of the serial killer who had stalked Los Angeles ruthlessly, leaving grisly calling cards on the faces of his female victims. Now with a single faultless shot, Detective Harry Bosch thinks he has ended the city's nightmare.
But the dead man's widow is suing Harry and the LAPD for killing the wrong man-- an accusation that rings terrifyingly true when a new victim is discovered with the Dollmaker's macabre signature.
So for the second time, Harry must hunt down a death-dealer who is very much alive, before he strikes again. It's a blood-tracked quest that will take Harry from the hard edges of the L.A. night to the last place he ever wanted to go-- the darkness of his own heart.
With The Concrete Blonde, Edgar Award-winning author Michael Connelly has hit a whole new level in his career, creating a breathtaking thriller that thrusts you into a blistering courtroom battle-- and a desperate search for a sadistic killer.

Add a CommentI loved this book! It was fast paced with lots of twists and turns and a marvelous surprise ending. I could not put the book down, by the time I was about 3/4 of the way through.
To me, Harry Bosch suffers a deep melancholy from the tragedy of his young life when his mother was murdered and his time in Viet Nam as a 'tunnel rat'. Harry Bosch's personal mission is to 'speak for the victims' and do whatever has to be done, including putting his life and career in jeopardy to bring justice for the victims.
If this is your first Michael Connelly novel, I'm sure you will be a fan for life!
Finely crafted and elegantly polished, this is about as good as a procedural gets. You're in good hands with Michael Connelly and when he's sculpting Bosch, very few can do it better. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride.
I would like this book on August 6
One of the better Harry Bosch novels - recommended.
Complex and hard to put down. Bosch is on trial for the wrongful death of a suspected serial killer, but another murder occurs that has the signature touches of the dead killer. The investigation is detailed, lots of twists and turns and red herrings. Very compelling story.

Have to agree with kwan of Calgary and other commenters - - high courtroom drama mixed with typical Bosch detecting.
Great combination of detective work and courtroom drama.
A great mix of courtroom drama, personal struggle, and detective work. Bosch faces self-doubt about his motives while gradually peeling back the layers of the mystery to reveal the true dark heart. I felt like cheering at the surprising conclusion.
