This epic network television mini-series brings to life the precarious existence of early Christianity. Violent opposition from without and constant turmoil from within beset the new movement. Two key leaders emerge--Peter and Paul--who struggle to keep the faith alive. This dramatic presentation follows the pair, together and separately, through three epochal decades. Included are the stoning of Stephen, the road to Damascus, their encounter in Jerusalem, their conflicts over how the word of Christ should be spread. Paul's travels to Asia Minor and Greece, Peter and Paul's clashes over Jewish law, and Peter's decision to follow in Paul's courageous footsteps. The drama concludes in Rome in approximately A.D. 64 with the beheading of Paul and the crucifixion of Peter under Emperor Nero.

Overall this is a good film. Its strength is Anthony Hopkins' passionate portrayal of Paul. Foxworth's Peter languishes because the screenplay, in an attempt to create drama and "relatability", is portrayed as conflicted and unsure of what to do next now that Jesus is no longer with him bodily. This does not accurately reflect the boldness of Peter which is already evident in Acts chapter 2. James, the half-brother of Jesus, has a minor role as the leader of the church in Jerusalem, and is inaccurately portrayed as someone wishing to keep his brother's identity as the Messiah very low-key to avoid persecution. It is secular historians who tell us that James, when confronted by the religious authorities of Jerusalem and told "everything will be alright if you (James) just admit Jesus was not the Messiah," refused, and was murdered by a mob. So what I am saying is: a nice attempt at Biblical drama, even inspired at times, but go to the source material, THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES as recorded by Luke in the New Testament. (Yup, the same Luke who wrote the 3rd gospel.)

Loved the movie but not true to the bible text, so know your bible. Even through, it touched my heart, God's love comes through and some of the challenges they may have had during that time period, yeah it is a bit long but if they had followed the bible it would have been longer. Great family movie.

It went on forever and ever. After a very long time of wandering here and there I had to turn it off.

I usually love biblical movies, unfortunately this was not one. I was unable to finish viewing it. Sad! Maybe biblical epics should be left to the big screen not the home screen. That aside, this effort suffers from a substandard script and acting.
