"Cara Rutledge returns to her Southern home on the idyllic Isle of Palms. Everything is comfortingly the same, yet each detail is rife with painful memories. Only through reconnecting with family, friends, and the rhythms of the lowcountry can Cara release the hold of the past and open herself to the possibility of a new love, career, and hope for the future. Meanwhile, her niece Linnea, a recent college graduate who doesnt know where her life will take her, leaves her historic home in Charleston, with all its entitlement and expectations, and heads to her aunts beach house. On the island, she is part of the freer, natural ocean lifestyle she loves, rejoining the turtle team, learning to surf, and falling in love. Remembering the lessons of her beloved grandmother, Lovie, the original turtle lady, Linnea rediscovers a meaningful purpose to her life and finds the courage she needs to break from tradition. In this heartwarming novel, three generations of the Rutledge family gather together to find the strength, love, and commitment to break destructive family patterns and to forge new bonds that will endure long beyond one summer reunion"--Amazon.com.

I really enjoy the Beach House series by by Mary Alice Monroe. There is something warm, inviting and magical about low-country beach stories. I do not think each novel in the Beach House series can be viewed as stand alone novels though and strongly suggest they be read in order to fully understand what drives the characters and the events that lead them to the Beach House Reunion, which has sadness and conflict but is mainly about rebirth, renewal, letting go and starting over.

That said, and since I have read all the Beach House series in order, I'm beginning to object to the eco-preachiness that came with Beach House Reunion, fully understanding that those readers who simply picked up Beach House Reunion have not been treated to it before. I know it's a fine line for the author to straddle.

I've read every book in this series; I love the Rutledge Family! But...this book? I didn't get my usual sense of closure with a single one of the characters. I really hope the story continues with another book soon!
~Definitely worth reading
~Not as satisfying as the four before it

This is the third in Mary Alice Monroe's Beach House series upon which Hallmark's movie The Beach House starring Andie MacDowell was based.

Cara Rutledge at age 53 is a new mom of her adopted daughter Hope. She's still grieving her late husband Brett. We meet the characters of earlier books again. This book's hurricane is Irma.

It is a satisfying beach book to read as summer draws to a close. There are two loves stories.

As usual the Beach House book by Mary Alice Monroe was as good as all her others. They make you feel like you're there on the outer banks of SC. Hope she writes more of them.
