Add a CommentThey really need to add trigger warnings as a lot of the plot of this book circles around sexual abuse of children. It isn’t part of the story directly, but it is definitely talked about a lot. People should know that going in. I really wanted to like the book, but that made it hard for me to listen to. It’s short, which is the only reason I got through it, but I won’t be reading any more of Morrison’s work.
Listening to this book is very difficult because the author reads each character exactly the same. I am not sure how good the story is because I couldn't finish it.
A short novel, set in the present, told from many points of view, and giving numerous opinions on aspects of modern American culture (clearly the author's, but set in the mouth of whichever narrator happens to be telling the tale). This one is also read - rather badly - by the author herself: although emphasis in sentences is given, every voice is identical in every dialogue and every narration from a character's point of view. Some parts are exceptionally gross, such as what the predatory pervert did with the boys and their genitals.
