Unlike many of the other comments on this book, I was disappointed.
I thought it started in a negative vein and it really didn’t do much to add levity after that. I think if you don’t mind reading about some of the “messy-ness” in people’s lives, you might like this book. I, for one, would prefer something that leans to some positivity.

Peppered with wacky characters and unlikely events, Mosquitoland has almost too much going on. Arnold has created a character with a very unique voice and there are many quotable passages throughout.

This is such a great book! It really shows some amazing character development and shows how someone truly can change their perspective once they start learning new and more things. I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to try something new and exciting and quirky.

I loved the characters and the sordid adventure the main character Mim undertook to get to her Mother for Labor Day. Lots of endearing characters and some significant plot twists too. Great storyline while also delving into mental health issues and their effects on families. Excellent debut novel by David Arnold!

Truly one of the most insightful books I have ever read! This novel effortlessly tackles real world issues not traditionally spoken about in mainstream media, let alone YA novels. All done with a dash of dark humor. Though this may not be for the faint of heart, the book may very well be one of my all time favorites.

On a scale of generic to war paint I think it's easily beyond war paint. This book was very magical and interesting and unique on so many levels. With lovable and detestable characters, a plethora of different settings and situations and how it touches on darker topics of substance and despair, this was a book that I'll never forget.

I liked this book a lot. It was following the story of a teenage girl whose parents are divorced and whose mom is sick. The ending was very nice, although somewhat expected. Told through first-person narration and letters to a sister, this book was engaging to the very end.

This was an amazing book. It was well written and it seemed long for how many pages it had. The characters were well developed, and the main character was very relatable, different as she was. I recommend this for a slightly older audience as it is very profound, and digs into the depth of the main characters angriest and most raw thoughts.

As much an epic odyssey across the U.S. as it is a teenage runaway story. Arnold's novel follows the capricious, sarcastic, and headstrong Mim as she flees from her father and stepmother in rural Mississippi to find her mother, who may or may not be dying of a horrible disease. Alone, angry, and unsure of her own sanity, Mim's journey takes her from Greyhound buses, rundown motels, and towns that are no more than a speck on the map. Confronting the dangers of the road as well as her personal demons, Mim meets a strange cast of surreal characters that either help her along her path, or stand in her way. Great for those who enjoy strong female protagonists, dark humor, and stories set in the deep south.

I am a collection of oddities, a circus of neurons and electrons: my heart is the ringmaster, my soul is the trapeze artist, and the world is my audience.
