Based on Paco Roca's award-winning graphic novel, the story opens with former bank manager Emilio being dispatched to a retirement home by his family. Like One Flew Over the Cuckoó‚s Nest in an old folks home, we are introduced to daily pill regimens, electric gates and an eccentric cast of characters who rebel against institutional authority, while doing everything in their power to avoid being assigned to the dreaded top floor assisted living wing.

I was moved almost to tears by this movie of the elderly, because it reminded me of my late grandmother who had had a stroke. What this movie depicts in an animated film is very powerful because it shows you the grim realities of what some elderly people go through. Some care homes, in fact, are not so nice in how they treat their residents either, but I won't go there.

Back to this film, I really felt for all the characters, especially Emilio.

An elderly man suffering the beginnings of dementia moves into a retirement home, where he is befriended by a cynical rogue who enjoys playing tricks on his neighbors. As the newcomer adjusts to his surroundings, he begins to suspect that his friend might be aiming to cause more harm than simple pranks.

This film is intelligently written, beautifully animated and kept me interested until the heart stopping ending.
This English version of the 2012 Spanish film, has voices by Martin Sheen (The West Wing; Departed), Mathew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises; Weeds), and George Coe (Funny People; Archer).
You will never want to grow old as this shows examples of what it is like to be slowly loosing your cognitive functions.
The bonus features is a silent monologue of animated cells, with no value towards the creation of the film or the graphic novel that is based upon by Pacao Roca, winning the 2008 Spanish National Comic Prize.
Highly recommended.

A beautiful, simple, sad and funny animated movie.

I give the movie "Wrinkles" a full five out of five stars. It brought me to tears. Animated movies usually dont send me but this movie on aging is a gem. It reminded me of father when he got Alzeimhers. Wow.

Interesting animated story line for those of us aging. Well done with some surprises.

The descent into dementia was well done. Definitely a tug on the heart strings.

I was misled by the "tender and humorous" line in the summary on the back of the DVD. There was some tenderness but not much humour, mainly the grim realities of the elderly, whether or not the have married and have children.

This film offers a bittersweet and all too real portrayal of life in a nursing home. It navigates the ups and downs of Alzheimer's in a way that's both lighthearted and sad. If you like stories that are smart, warm, and sobering, you'll enjoy this one.

Not the typical happy-go-lucky animation movie but we nethertheless enjoyed watching it as a family. It marries funny and tragedy while reflecting on getting old and on loosing one's health and capacities.

Miguel: And we've saved the best for last (giving tour to Emilio). The swimming pool.
Emilio: I didn't bring my swimming suit.
Miguel: It doesn't matter. It's not like you're going to use it. It's only here so they can impress the clients.
Emilio: The clients?
Miguel: You know, the ones who pay the bills. Your children. The government. They are the residency's real clients, not you or me. The swimming pool's here for them, to look nice in a brochure so they can think this is a five-star hotel...A swimming pool? It's like some cruel joke. Most of the people here can't even shower on their own.
