A classic must see. One of Costner's best work, and still stands up with time.

Unforgettable. Macabre, but just a little funny.
It seems about as realistic a depiction as any Robin Hood I've seen so far, though I don't suppose the bar has been set too high.

TO ULTIMATE REVIEWER: They DO NOT disrespect the Catholic Church! They disrespect those who used the Catholic Church to grow fat and rich - the ones who truly disrespected the Catholic Church! Please read THEY WALKED A CROOKED MILE for the terrible abuse that tarnished the Catholic Church and led to the prejudice and stereotyping that haunt the Church (and many religions) to this day. TO THE REST: This Is NOT Meant To Be A History Lesson! IT `S MEANT TO BE A SATURDAY AFTERNOON ADVENTURE! PERIOD! Don`t watch it for Shakespearean excellence or historical accuracy. WATCH IT FOR ALAN RICKMAN`S NO-HOLDS-BARRED, FREE-ADLIBBING PORTRAYAL THAT EARNED THE FIRST RAVE REVIEW I EVER HEARD ROGER EBERT BESTOW! NOTE: This was made at a time when `racial mending` and `political correctness` went overboard, thus dictating Robin Hood (the White Dude) had to be especially dumb so that the character Morgan Freeman played (the Black Dude created out of whole cloth for the occasion) would look especially clever and heroic (and, with all due respect, the Arabic Empires of the East WERE so far ahead of Europe in terms of the healing arts, geography, the use of lenses, astronomy, etc, the exchanges between Robin Hood and the Moor make perfect sense!) Anyway, that`s my opinion and I`m stuck with it!

One of Kevin Costner's BEST performances, not as good as Dances with Wolves though.

They disrespect the Catholic Church. Not at all recommended.

Please note: Look up a legitimate review for this movie on IMDB. You won't find one here.
I cannot believe this movie has anything to do with Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. This movie is depressing, especially the first minute. It tries to be funny, but I find Conan: The Destroyer to be more humorous(Really!). Just watch Adventures of Robin Hood(1938) available here at WPL and save two hours of your life.

Hello everyone. I have watched this film and personally did not like it. There were many scenes that were questionable in this movie. One of the first ones that came to mind was, why is there an old woman in the movie practicing sorcery? This does not have anything to do with King John. Another question that came to mind was, where was King John? There was not a single time where he was shown or mentioned in this film.
The whole movie seems to be based around the goals of Robin Hood, and the love story between him and Maid Marian. There were also many scenes that presented Alan Rickman's character. We do not even know his name other than that he is the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The action scenes were also far too long and drawn out. Why is Will Scarlett portrayed as Robin Hood's (half-)brother? It does not relate in anyway to the rest of the movie and was un-needed. The whole attempted rape scene at the end was also completely un-needed in this film.

This is a movie I would not watch again. It did not contain any information that pertained to King John's rulership, which was the basis for the Robin Hood legends to begin with.

I enjoyed the heck out of this movie. Brian Blessed charging the guns is a fun opening act. Morgan Freeman has a dignified presence throughout. Alan Rickman's Sheriff is brilliantly deranged and has a demented and inspired chemistry with Michael Wincott as the Guy of Gisborne. The soundtrack is wonderful. The film slavishly follows the hero's journey, and this is both a weakness and a strength. This will never be a masterpiece, but it doesn't have to be. I rewatched this movie endlessly as a teenager and don't need it to be high art. At least they didn't cast Russell Crowe.

Alan Rickman is fabulous: the only good thing about this movie. Robin Hood is a wimp.

I have watched this movie more than once just to see Alan Rickman's performance. He makes the movie worth watching.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Claustrophobic close-ups of terrified men and an evil witch. Men's hands tied to an anvil and then chopped of by a flaming sword. Men chained in a dark dungeon. Attempted murder of children. Attempted rape at end of movie.
