This is the science fiction novel the TV show FlashForward was based on. But this is totally different! This is a classic normal science-fiction story. The characters are scientists. In fact scientists at CERN who are pretty sure that they accidentally caused the flashforward. It's very good.

Also it was written in 1999 but takes place in 2009. A year before the iPad was invented and yet they already had tablet computers in the story. 😊

Enjoyed the book though it is different than the TV series (more scientific details in the book- not a bad thing, just different). As always, Sawyer's books make you think.

An interesting concept, lots of philosophical ideas are presented in the context of the story. The writing style is very blunt, it doesn't have the sweep of a "storyteller". But it is enjoyable and will give you things to think about.

Amazing book that truly makes you think. Love the TV show. It is better than the book because it shows more of a character evolution and is more from a criminal/psychological aspect whereas the book is much more scientific. I guess it depends on which field of interest you enjoy. Would recommend this book though if you are a fan of the show, bonus it is by a Canadian author too!

A friend gave me this book for my birthday and it has turned out to be an even more personal gift than expected. It was written in 1999, but turns out it takes place, well, now: in April 2009. The scientific experiment mentioned in the blurb refers to an attempt to detect a Higgs boson. Plus all the Canadian references are great! (Sawyer wrote both Chapters and Indigo into 2009, but he failed to foresee their merger.)

This novel is science fiction at it’s most straight-up – a well-executed but ultimately non-literary adventure story. This book would suffer nothing by being a movie.*

*This book is now a TV series, but I think the book is better because the TV series got a little comic book villainy.

The TV series is better than the book, though the book is very good. There are a lot of similar elements between the book and the show and I recommend reading the book if you like the show. A lot of the themes, trials and even names are the same. The book was published in 1999 and takes place in 2009, so it's kind of neat to see what the author's vision of 2009 was, and where he was right and where he was not.

I'm not going to get into the metaphysics of the book, but I think it was about one chapter too long. The "neat little bow" at the end, I feel, diluted the story.

* warning: 1 small (I think inconsequential) spoiler *

I think it would have been better if it ended just as the second flash began, so we would be left to our own imagination as to what they saw. A good, easy, enjoyable read.

This book is very different than the series named after it.
