Red Leaf is a young Native American boy who lives on a reservation on the Great Northern Plains. His Grandfather is teaching him the ways of the sacred path their ancestors walked. The story begins with Red Leaf at eleven, learning about Fire Keeping. When Red Leaf is twelve, he goes in the Sweat Lodge. At thirteen, he goes out on Vision Quest. Told in a simple novel form, the traditions described are still in use today.
