This movie, touted as the best movie Hitchcock never made, is nothing more than a silly caper flick featuring a too-old-to-be a-romantic-leading-man in Cary Grant and a lovely, if lightweight (not just thin) Audrey Hepburn.

There is no McGuffin
There is no icy-blonde to conquer
There is no compelling score, only a fluffy, if "hooky," pop-music theme from ubiquitous Henry Mancini
The titles are a Saul Bass" ripoff

There was, however, an obligatory and obvious scene of rear projection of Grant and Hepburn having dinner on a boat traversing the Seine. This was truly distracting.

There was no suspense at all as each thug's demise was completely telegraphed in advance, including that Walter Matthau was the actual crook, not Cary Grant.

Stanley Donen made a lot of pretty good movies. This was a pretty good movie, too, but it's not Hitchcockian by any stretch no matter how far you reach.

1960's thriller... Is it a drama?... a comedy??? a thriller. Fun to watch but I figured it out early on. A bit over-acting in parts but Grant & Hepburn make it fun.

Will we ever see two great actors in their prime playing opposite each other like Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant? Will we ever have such a wonderful script for said such actors to challenge them? Did I mention that Walter Mattheu has a character role in "Charade"? The soundtrack seems perfect for the story on the screen. Few movies today have the simplicity of the magic of "Charade". Long after today's movies are forgotten, movie goers will be wanting to download "Charade". Thank God for downloads, because Hollywood would have the movie out of print and destroy the original master tapes of the movie! After all, if you can't sell millions of copies, what would possibly be in it for them?

i had just watched The Big Sleep before this (William Faulkner was one of the writers) which had amazingly zippy dialogue spoken by Bogart who could really deliver a line. By contrast,Charade has some of the worst dialogue and line readings.

Cary Grant and Audrey are simply wonderful here and it makes for one of Audrey's best movies. Very entertaining and Cary Grant has some extremely funny moments; one in particular. I won't spoil it, but you'll know it when it appears on screen! The storyline is a little hard to follow; particularly because Grant's character takes on several different identities, but I simply love the drama and romance that Charade brings to life here. Great music and many great performers make this a terrific movie!

Directed by Stanley Donen in 1963, this American romantic thriller depicts the search for the stolen money.
Although the film contains disgusting touches and gruesome violence, the drama appears like a nice Hitchcock movie.
Superb are Henry Mancini's score and theme song as well as the animated titles by Maurice Binder.

Good movie for its time period. Lots of well-known actors. I enjoyed it.

One of my all time favorite movis! Love, mystery and an unexpected twist. And of course Audrey Hepburn is perfect!

The plot has too many holes and reaches and some of the performances fall flat, but there is something about this undemanding crime caper that keeps you watching and smiling just the same. Maybe it’s the lush Oscar-nominated musical score by Henry Mancini, or the glittering Paris backdrops, or maybe the whole production is just riding on the sheer star power of its two leads? Despite a few rather operatic murders, a bit of mild suspense, and George Kennedy’s hammy performance as a growling one-armed thug, "Charade" is essentially a contrived May-December romantic comedy with Hepburn and Grant not quite convincing enough to suspend disbelief. But they’re pretty to look at (those Givenchy fashions!) and Charles Lang’s opulent cinematography cashes in on snow-capped alps and twinkling Parisian boulevards. Perhaps it’s fitting then that the film reaches its climax in an ornate theatre all done up in red and gold—but devoid of any audience. Great opening credits sequence though.

Oh what a movie! Enjoyable, thrilling, oh the
fashion back then, everyone looked good-
even the bad guys! Such a good movie resulted
in actually buying our own copy.
