Ordell Robbie sells illegal high-powered weapons to the wrong people. Jackie Burke couriers his profits, but the feds are on to her and she'll have to do prison time or play ball. This makes her a loose end Ordell needs to tie-up permanently. But Jackie has other options, and with the help of bail bondsman Max Cherry, she could even end up with a serious nest egg. (June)

Wanted to read as Rum Punch was the basis for the film Jackie Brown, except Jackie is a blonde called Jackie Birch and this takes place in Miami instead of the L.A. area. Leonard is easy to read and a good crime writer. Ordell is a great character.

Few create characters and dialogue that drives the story as well as Leonard. The plot can be a little tricky to follow at first with so many characters and story lines, but in typical Leonard fashion it all ties together for an exciting climax. Highly recommended for a good, quick read.

Read this after watching BR edition of "Jackie Brown". Glad to report that the movie stayed pretty true to this book less a bloody gun robbery episode and that the body types of Jackie (book's name is Jackie Burke) and Melanie reversed. The sharp crisp dialogue in this action packed thriller is a pleasure read. BTW, second act to Elmore's 1978 [The Switch] when Ordell and Louis along with Melanie kidnapped the wife of a wealthy business man.

The difference in them, Melanie's were cut off at her butt, she was messier-looking and had those huge xyzzies. Jackie had that fine slim body on her and Melanie, you could tell the way she looked at Jackie, wished she had one like it.

Ordell: Come on, let's go see the show.
Louis said, : You're the show.

Nicolet: That's right, you got a divorce. You remarried --- what about your present husband?"
Jackie: He died last year.
Nicolet: You go throught 'em ....What kind of work did he do?
He drink, Jackie said.

Max on the mother of his client: The woman could be a threat with a butcher knife but cooked like a saint.

“Young skinhead Nazis,” Ordell said. “Look, even little Nazigirls marching down Worth Avenue. You believe it? Coming now you have the Klan, not too many here today. Some in green, must be the coneheads’ new spring shade. Behind them it looks like some Bikers for Racism, better known as the Dixie Knights. We gonna move on ahead, fight through the crowd here,” Ordell said, bringing Louis along.
