Add a CommentI love this book! I love it for its real-feeling science, well documented experiment, and a large dose of silliness. The illustrations are masterful, and the story very enjoyable.
Featuring illustrations of giant vegetables floating through the sky, this picture book encourages imagination and interests in science, the possibility of alien life and maybe even an interest in vegetables.
Wiesner has such a good grasp on how to present a fantastical story! Young Holly Evans, a budding scientist, launches balloons with vegetable seeds into the earth's atmosphere. She never expected giant vegetables to mysteriously appear on Earth weeks later. Especially the vegetables she didn't include in her experiment! One of our fave children's science fiction picture books.
Bit of a scifi twist, like a girl making a science experiment.
A magical story about a world full of giant vegetables. Used during the Destination Jungle program, "Growing Wild" at the following branches: Greely, Richmond, North Gower, Metcalfe and Vernon.
This is what happens when a school science project and an accident meet head on.
