I enjoyed all but the last 3 or 4 pages of this novel in verse. I don't know why, it seemed like the ending was a rush job and it soured my taste for the whole book.
Like many of Hopkins works, this book features troubled familial relationships, alcoholism, and physical abuse. The realistic struggles of the women in this traditional (yet very troubled) Mormon family are both intriguing and sympathetic. Many teens may relate to the pressure placed on the family to appear perfect in spite of the many flaws that are dormant under the surface.
So far this was one of my favorite and the most suspenful reads from Ellen Hopkins collection. I found myself intrigued with every page turn!
the book was sad...but still a great story
I love Ellen's books a lot. She guided me through a bad situation or two. I love that her books shed light on parts of religion and society that most overlook. Her books are hilarious, yet too real.
seems to follow the same formula as many other ellen hopkins novels, but still an interesting and quick read.
Another great book by Ellen Hopkins . Didn't care for the ending so much but she redeemed herself by writing the sequel SMOKE. Reading that one now .
I love her books so much I can't wait to read this one
