Rear Admiral Michelle Henke was commanding one of the ships in a force led by Honor Harrington in an all-out space battle when she and her surviving crew were taken prisoner. Through an agreement with the Havenites and her government, she was given a command far away from the war's battle lines. What she didn't realize was that she would find herself on a collision course with the interstellar syndicate of criminals known as Manpower.

Nice Honorverse novel set in "boring sleepy" sideshow front with limited navel resources. Echoed police action in past colonial empires before WWII. Plenty of covert action by various factions each having own agendas. Solarian Empire trying to stay together & expand using Frontier Fleet & proxies. Mesa Alignment centuries shadowy long plan to take over the universe. Manicore Empire consolidating their expanding empire.
Reader probably need to read previous novels to understand space opera.

I don't know where Weber is taking the Honorverse, but he keeps you turning the pages, and at 1000 pages that is pretty good. Although always called a "military" writer, Weber is pretty good at creating a vast multidimensional panorama of Galactic Culture, that includes lots of politics, spying, economics, and social phenomena, and above all, wheels within wheels within wheels of skullduggery and intrigue. So far he has kept it fresh, despite the fact that it's all the same, by expanding his canvas and cast. He's not a great writer but I enjoy the Honorverse a lot, and am quite glad he did not go ahead with plans to kill her off, as novels like this work VERY well with Honor doing no more than a cameo. And i sincerely hope he can keep the Honorverse going, and if this is any indication, he can.

for a book in excess of a Thousand pages, lots of plots & sub-plots , so many NEW characters, it is very easy & enthrallling reading.
Just what can be expected of a Honorverse Novel.

It's been a few years since I read Shadow of Saganami. I think I would have enjoyed Storm from the Shadows more if I'd read them closer together. I kept thinking there were plot details I should be remembering which would have made this book clearer.
If you are an Honor Harrington fan, you might be disappointed that she's not featured. If you're a David Weber space navy fan, you'll be pleased by the believable navy detail and the expansion of Mike's career.

Storm from the Shadows is a great follow up to The Shadow of Saganami and still ties in with the main Honor Harrington story line in At All Costs. Its a great read and makes you want to read the installment as soon as possible. A must read for any Honorverse fan.
