PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLER * ECPA BESTSELLER * A story of love that won't let go--no matter what!

California's gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father's heart in everything. Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel's every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband's pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does...the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God's unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

Fantastic read! Loved it. Story based on the Book of Hosiah in the Bible.

i was recommended this book through a friend and at first i was skeptical, considering it has very strong adult themes. nothing to insanely graphic but just enough for a young adult. overall i liked this book add it to one of those books that you cant put down. it even gave me a new definition or outlook on what love means and looks like.

Easily her best, many think--this novel is brilliant, moving, deep, thought-out, empathetic, painful at times but beautiful all the same, & lacks a campiness not missing from many attempts at a similar historical-based allegorical narrative. It is DELIGHT, through & through. Case-in-point, at one time a coworker & I both had this on our staff pick simultaneously. Enjoy!

This is hands down my favorite book! I have read it multiple times and it is always just as beautiful as the first!

A beautiful story of the power of love, both human and divine. I really enjoyed following Angel on her journey through tragedy to healing.

What a surprise this book was. I'm a pretty staunch atheist and have been since I was in my teens. I read the first two chapters of the bible when I was about ten simply because it was a 'popular' book and I was interested in finding out for myself what it was all about (I've always been determined to make up my own mind on a topic or book, even when I was a child). All I really remember now is that there were a lot of names that I was constantly getting mixed up and uses of the word 'begat' and even then I was confused how civilisation survived with only one man and one woman as the parents of everyone (are we just supposed to believe that incest was just a fact of life in 'those' days?). I'm more inclined to believe in aliens than an all-powerful being who watches over every single person on the Earth, claiming to love us all no matter what we do, but at the same time lets some people commit the most heinous crimes and lets others suffer through the most terrible things and their only rescue is eventual death. How could a God like the one described in this book allow children to be raped and murdered like happens everyday in every country throughout the world?

Anyway, I'm clearly not the target market, which is why I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I had to make a few adjustments in my head while I was reading to make it more believable to me - the 'God' voice and the 'Devil' voice turned into the character's conscience because for me hearing voices is a sign of mental illness, not religious faith. I hadn't heard of the bible story that inspired this book, so didn't make the connection between the two (even after Michael related the original story to Angel/Sarah), but I don't think that impacted on my understanding of the story in any way.

I've shelved this as historical fiction, rather than the romance it's marketed as, because I just didn't feel like this was a romance in any sense of the word. There was no chemistry between Michael and Angel/Sarah, and there were no sex scenes. If I had been unable to see an interesting story through the God stuff, this might have ended up as a one star review, but fortunately I was able to just ignore the fact that this was meant to be romantic and enjoyed the story of a woman forced into prostitution and her journey to a better life. Till Paul received his HEA I was giving this four stars, but I just couldn't believe in Sarah's ability to forgive him so easily (another sign that I'm NOT a believer), I wanted some justice for the horrendous way he treated her because of his own failings. An apology on both sides (like she had anything to apologise for!) was not enough for me. The one thing I was disappointed not to see was Sarah and Michael adopting children. Instead of praying a whole lot and then finally becoming pregnant I thought them adopting children who needed a home would have been a much better message to end the book with. I would consider reading another book by Rivers, just not one of her more recent books as I wouldn't be interested in any further religious-themed books.

This was definitely not my preferred type of book. I was very skeptical when I was recommended this. But the story was so beautiful and well written. I really enjoyed this book.

I hate historical books from the 1800 time period - BUT - I loved this book. It took me to new levels of understanding what forgiveness and love look like in action. One of my top 10 "life" books.

I had high expectations of this book as it was on the top of many book lists and highly recommended by a friend. It did not disappoint. I don't think I have ever been so engrossed in a book from the very first page. It is certainly not a light read but is a book I will not soon forget. This is inspirational historical fiction at its best.

The best book I've ever read. Francine Rivers raised my expectations of how a writer should make me feel. Her characters and plot satisfy your greatest expectations in a well writen story.

I don’t want to be the center of your life. I want to be part of it. I want to be your husband, not your god. People can’t always be there for you, no matter how much they want to be. And that includes me.
