The two films define what you like better.
1971 "Gene Wilder"-Classic,Fun and heart warming.
2005"Johnny Depp"- Spooky,Visual stunning and funny.
None is better than the other, its Tim Burton or Mel Stuart.

Believe me - This totally asinine movie makes a really hideous statement about the underhanded ethics of the candy bar industry.

And, on top of that - I also think that this is an utterly nasty and horrible children's picture. If I had any children, I wouldn't let them watch this one.

The deceitful Willy Wonka character was nothing but a despicable monster who gave no thought about annihilating some bratty kids just because they didn't meet his neurotic/psychotic standards.

Yes. Indeed. Speaking about the likes of greed, gluttony, and the absolute grotesque - You can be sure, it's all here - Wrapped up into one deceitful, under-handed, little package that has Willy Wonka's chocolatey mess smeared all over it.

Without question - (From my perspective) - This 1971 children's picture has got to be one of the ugliest, most cringe-worthy movie-experiences that I've had to endure in a mighty long time.

Its stupid-minded story is utterly childish nastiness to the max. And the totally repulsive "Willy Wonka" character (played so spitefully by Gene Wilder) is even more despicable than the obnoxious, little brats who all win a visit to Wonka's chocolate factory and inevitably get their (rightful?) comeuppance.

One of my favorite movies, while it strays quite a bit from the book, it is a beautiful and funny movie that everyone in the family will love.

I love this movie, I grew up watching it yes it has its cheesy moments what do you expect from this movie it was made so long ago. I watched the Johnny Depp one when it came out I like both equally, it is a family movie and a classic I wish I owned it.... 5 stars!!

I know this first adaptation of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is incredibly beloved by so many people. And there is a lot to love. The look of the film is whimsical and fun. Most of the child actors did a good job of portraying the brats in the book. Gene Wilder did an interesting interpretation of Willy Wonka. However, this adaptation has never really stood up for me. I've always felt that there is something missing, and part of it might be the darker tone that pervades throughout Roald Dahl's books, beneath all the whimsy. I felt this movie only had a moment like that once, and it is bizarrely out of place with the rest of the film.

This movie is good but, unfortunately, I watched it after "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" because Johnny Depp's movie was the new version. And of course, in the new movie all the machines and the decorations are newer and prettier. But that doesn't mean that the old version is bad -- it is the 1st version and that makes it unforgettable. I think that the two Wonkas have done a really great job in acting the character, although Johnny Depp was funnier and weirder in a funny way too, but I think that the two were great. This movie is appropriate for all ages and I give it 5.5/10. - @rahmamawlood of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
