Add a Commenti have used the term 'dago red' recently. this is not an apology. i used to be friends with an italian american who lived very close to san pablo bay. we used to go hiking down to the shore with a picnic which often included 'dago red' wine, as he referred to it. we also indulged in the illegal act of smoking marijuana, which is now quite acceptable./ read early hemingway to catch his realistic vernacular, especially in the dialogue written for villains of the piece, i suggest the excellent short story, THE KILLERS. others of that time period, such as THE BATTLER include 'unacceptable' language. / the greatest american novel, written by Mark Twain, HUCKLEBERRY FINN is also "guilty" of the same sin (realism). go ahead, look up 'realism' on wikipedia. i dare you./ which brings us back to an italian-american: madonna ciccone. she did an excellent documentary i urge you to check out: TRUTH OR DARE. Watch as the Toronto police attempt to censor her show, on grounds of obscenity. Having recently watched the Grammy Awards, i think, 'how far we have come since those early "VOGUE" days. / Back off!, policia! (he said, over my shoulder, 'well, that's not illegal, but....). When yer a cop, you have no business to intimidate a legal citizen engaging in a legal activity, using your uniform and attitude, in other words while being paid to pursue criminals, not law-abiding citizens. as Ringo said in the film from 1965*, 'i don't subscribe to your religion.' This happened recently at Bellevue branch. The officer's name is Tarantino. * HELP
Classic, masculine Hemingway that everyone should read at least once. You could tackle this collection of 10 short, readable stories in a single day, or enjoy one per day and still finish well before it's time to renew the book.
Probably the bast selection of Hemingway's short stories (the form he was strongest in).
