Astonishingly forgettable.

Ok, so I had to watch this only because I've had a huge crush on Milla Jovovich for years. But, after checking out this flick, It appears that Milla decided that "milking" franchises like "Resident Evil" was pretty easy & lucrative. Now it appears that she's hoping that making a franchise out of "Monster Hunter" will make her rich enough to see her through her golden years. Or maybe not?

You owe me 103 minutes of my life back.

In a way for those missing Game of Thrones you might like this. Plenty of monsters and action sequences. The monsters are everywhere so to keep your eyes on them and your thoughts away from the plot. These kaiju (giant monsters) are becoming commonplace and challenging zombies for screen time. Fun popcorn movie that you'll forget the next day.

Insipid story pablum with decent CG production values. Very little to say about this film beyond don't bother.

A military unit gets magically zapped into desert Mysterious Island, fight briefly for their lives while mostly dying, then get zapped back for a big boss battle. About one third unnecessary kung fu on what looked like the set of "Pan," another third fighting green-screen critters and trashing CG military gear, and a final third staring into the desert.

Very little dialogue or imagination involved with incredulous violence, so this movie failed on all fronts. The budget was probably Milla's paycheque; I will never understand her appeal as anybody could have stepped in and grunted their way through ten lines of stilted dialogue. She was the least convincing cinema soldier I've ever seen, struggling to sound cool while remembering lines because there probably wasn't a script. Some walk-on weirdness in the last half hour might have been game characters that somebody felt needed a mention, but the entire cast had minimal screen time. The project must have been easy pay for half days in a makeup chair.

Not sure if the movie was an ad for the game or if somebody thought they could make easy movie money with predictable viewers, but the film certainly didn't make me want to try the game.

Don't bother watching it, it wasn't good at all.

For a pilot motion picture of a video game, I rate it top shelf because can't think of a better life-action movie of another video game with better graphics (best dragons) and diverse cast (Jaa, Milla and Perlman). And no, comic series do not count as video games.

Notable life-action movies that are spinoffs of video games are:
Mortal Combat, since 1995
Resident Evil (stars Milla as well) , since 1996
Lara Craft Tomb Raider, since 2001
Hitman, since 2007
Assassin's Creed, 2016
Warcraft, 2016
Ghost in the Shell, 2017

I got this from the St. Paul library - it's basically Resident Evil 6 with Milla dueling SyFy dinosaurs instead of the walking dead.

This action/survival film is based on the popular Monster Hunter video game series. Milla Jovovitch stars as Captain Artemis, and after being sucked into the world of Monster Hunter, she must use all her courage and skill to survive. The plot and dialog are very weak, but the CGI and action sequences make the film watchable, especially for fans of the game series.

Not too many quotable dialogue as the film features Milla and Tony from too different space-time dimensions, But IMDb manages to have 11 quotes, thanks to its contributors:
