This book kept me interested the entire time. Especially once you hit about halfway through, I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know who did it, why they did it, etc...a great mystery with historical facts, friendship, family, betrayal,…

One of those stories, you can't put down. Lots of intrigue. I really enjoyed it.

This may well be a wonderful book, but at 541 pages of tiny print, I find it challenging to follow the many turns in characters and places to keep track of the story and so have reluctantly given up on trying to figure it all out.

At first I was going to rate this 2 stars - after all, I did read all 550 pages of it, how much could I have hated it? - but further rumination led me to the dreaded half-star rating. This was a…

Not one of her best. Half way through I gave up and did a quick read to the last chapter as I figured out the ending. 300 pages would have made it a "couldn't put down" book, but 550 pages made it a chore to read. Might not read any…

A completely mesmerizing story that takes you on the journey of three women, separated by time, yet whose lives are entangled together. Once started, I found it very hard to put down to do anything else! Fair warning, even though I sort of…

A well written novel connecting the lives of three women spanning different generations and time periods. At the center of this interwoven story lies the mystery of the Authoress waiting to be discovered... in some ways like the forgotten…

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Once you settle into the story it's very hard to put down. Would highly recommend Ms. Morton's books.

Three generations of women suffer the loss of their mothers while still children. The story focuses on the love that exists between mother and child, identity, and birthright. The magic of childhood runs through this story. The fairy tales…

Trying not to give the story away I can only say that I was very surprised that the little girl's companion would leave her unsupervised on the ship after all the grief she went to in order for them to be together.

A tiny girl is on a ship that docks in Australia. She is alone, and doesn't know her name or why she left England.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Kate Morton. Found it so mesmerizing and could not put it down. The characters quite literally come alive and follow their own pathway. I could read it again and it reminded me of my growing up years…

My favorite Kate Morton novel. I loved the history, the mystery, the family drama, the gothic overtones, and I was especially enchanted by her writing.

Fun, sudsy-soapy family mystery. Elements of classic 'romance' novels abound: the Big Stately Home owned by the Monied Family with Secrets, the troubled daughter(s) of the house, the might-be-a-bad-guy son of the house, the beautiful…

Morton sure does weave an intricate tale with steady slow drips of clues and misdirection. I didn't fall for the misdirection in this one though and had it sorted sooner than I did her other books.

Another great book by Kate Morton. A little girl is left alone on board a ship bound for Australia. She is taken into the home of the dock worker in Australia and brought up as his daughter. Doesnt find out the truth until she is 18. …

27/05 - I think Nell was a bit of an ungrateful fool to pull away from her sisters and father and fiancee (I understand that even less) just because she found out she was "adopted". That doesn't mean that anyone loved her any less, in fact…

I usually don't enjoy books that flip flop between time periods quickly. This book was so well crafted that the flow seemed easy and natural. Strong women characters. Nice mix of history and fantasy (fairy tales). Towards the end all I…
